Do light trailers with a GVW up to 750 kg have to be equipped with a reversing light?

Light trailers with a GVW (permissible gross vehicle weight) of up to 750 kg are a popular choice among drivers. They are easy to transport and do not require special driving privileges. But do they need to be equipped with a reversing light? You'll find the answer to that question in this post.

Legislation

According to the law, lightweight trailers up to 750 kg do not have to be equipped with a brake. This is one of the features that most often determine the choice of this type of trailers by drivers with category B, since a car plus trailer combination cannot exceed 4250 kg in their case.

Light trailers are included in category O1, in which the use of a reverse light is not required, as specified in Regulation No. 48 of the Economic Commission for Europe of the United Nations (UNECE) - "Uniform provisions concerning the approval of vehicles with regard to lighting and light-signalling devices" subsection 6.4. Reversing light (Regulation No. 23) subsection 6.4.1. Application, which on the subject of the use of a reversing light reads as follows "Mandatory in motor vehicles and trailers of categories O2, O3 and O4. Optional in trailers of category O1."

Summary

In conclusion, light trailers with a GVW of up to 750 kg are not required to be equipped with a reversing light. However, it's always a good idea to check local road regulations and technical requirements in your country to make sure your trailer is legal and safe for use.

Let's remember that safety on the road is the most important thing, so always obey traffic regulations and make sure that our vehicle and trailer are in proper working order.
