Does a car trailer have to be equipped with front position lights?

A car trailer must be equipped with front position lights, but only if its width exceeds 1.6 meters. The lighting regulations for vehicles, including trailers, specify which lights should be installed. For trailers, the lighting requirements depend on their size.

This is specified Regulation No. 48 of the Economic Commission for Europe of the United Nations (UNECE) - "Uniform provisions concerning the approval of vehicles with regard to lighting and light-signalling devices" subsection 6.9. Front position lamps (Regulation No. 7) 6.9.1 Application, which specifies "Mandatory on all motor vehicles. Mandatory on trailers over 1,600 mm wide. Optional on trailers less than 1,600 mm wide."

For trailers over 2.1 meters wide, it is necessary to equip the trailer with front and rear marker lights. However, trailers longer than 6 meters (including the drawbar) should have side position lamps.

Remember that safety on the road is the most important thing, so always obey traffic regulations and make sure our vehicle and trailer are in proper working order.
